The Golden-mantled Ground-Squirrel (Spermophilus lateralis) is a resident of a wide variety of habitats in the American West. It ranges from parts of southwest Canada down to some areas of southern California and eastward into central New Mexico. The shot on the right is of an individual at Yellowstone National Park, Teton Co., Wyoming, in August, 1999. It was shot with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens on Fuji Sensia.
