John Gee and Carol Edwards discovered and Carol photographed several interesting gulls at Playa Bagdad, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on 25 November 1998. This location is about 15 miles south of the Texas border at the mouth of the Rio Grande. The rare gulls they identified included Kelp, Lesser Black-backed, and Thayer's. The Kelp Gull series includes three images that also show the Lesser Black-backed. The Thayer's Gull series also includes three images with the Kelp Gull visible in one. These were scanned from 4X6 color prints. All these shots were taken at the same location and time. To read a note by John & Carol about these observations, click here.
