Common Wood Nymph
Cercyonis pegala
The Common Wood Nymph (Cercyonis pegala) is widespread and common across most of the United States. The two shots shown here were taken in the Angelina National Forest in Angelina Co., Texas, in June, 2003. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender.
Common Wood-Nymphs vary in appearance geographically. The next three shots were taken along the Niobrara River in Cherry Co., Nebraska, in July, 2011.
